DRY EYE RELIEF:

How IPL & LLIT
Can Help You
See (and Feel)
Better

If your eyes feel dry, irritated, watery, or tired during winter, you’re not alone.   Cold air, indoor heating and longer hours on screens can all make dry eye symptoms worse. For some people, eye drops may help for a short time — but if the discomfort keeps coming back, there may be something deeper going on.

The good news is that dry eye is not just something you have to “put up with”. At Trak Spex, we offer advanced dry eye treatments, including IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and LLLT (Low Level Light Therapy) designed to help target the cause of dry eye and support longer-lasting comfort.

What does dry eye feel like?

Dry eye does not always feel the same for everyone.

Some people feel dryness or grittiness, while others experience watery eyes, burning, redness or
blurry vision.

Common dry eyes symptoms include:

Dryness or a

gritty sensation

Burning, stinging

or irritation

Watery eyes

Redness

Light sensitivity

Blurry or

fluctuating vision

Tired eyes, especially

after screen use

Discomfort when

wearing contact lenses

If these symptoms sound familiar, book an eye assessment and get to the
root cause of your dry eye.

DID YOU KNOW?

Watery Eyes Can Still
Be a Sign of Dry Eye.

This is one of the most common things people find confusing.

You might think watery eyes mean your eyes are producing
enough tears, but that is not always the case. When your eyes
are irritated or your tear film is unstable, they may produce
watery tears as a reaction.

The problem is that these tears may not have the right balance to keep your eyes comfortable. So even though your eyes are watering, they can still feel dry, irritated or tired.

Why winter makes
it worse?

Indoor heating that dries out the air

Cold wind and outdoor air

More time spent indoors on screens

Reduced blinking during screen use

Faster tear evaporation

When above factors combine, dry eye symptoms can feel more constant and harder to ignore.

What causes dry eyes?

One of the most common causes of ongoing dry eye is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction, also known as MGD.

The meibomian glands are tiny oil glands in your eyelids. They help produce the oil layer of your tears, which keeps
your tear film stable and prevents tears from evaporating too quickly.

When these glands become blocked or are not working properly, your tears can evaporate faster than they should. This can leave your eyes feeling dry, gritty, irritated or watery.

How IPL and LLLT can help

If your dry eye is linked to blocked oil glands or inflammation, treatment may need to go beyond eye drops.

At Trak Spex, IPL and LLLT treatments are used to help support gland function, improve tear quality and provide
longer-lasting comfort for suitable patients.

Intense Pulsed Light
(IPL)

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is an in clinic treatment that uses
controlled light pulses around the eye area to help reduce
inflammation and support better meibomian gland function.

For suitable patients, IPL may help:

Reducing inflammation around the eyelids

Helping unclog blocked oil glands

Improving the natural oil layer of the tear film

Supporting healthier, more stable tear production

By restoring gland function, IPL helps address one of the
main causes of chronic dry eye rather than just masking
discomfort.

Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT)

Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT) uses gentle, therapeutic light
to support the eyelids and surrounding tissue.

LLLT May help support:

Stimulating cell regeneration

Supporting healing in the eyelid glands

Enhancing the effects of IPL

Improving tear film stability and overall comfort

LLLT is often used in combination with IPL to maximise results
and support longer-term improvement.

The benefits of IPL + LLLT treatment

When used together, IPL and LLLT can help:

Reduce dryness, burning, and irritation

Improve overall eye comfort

Support healthier tear production

Reduce reliance on artificial tears and eye drops

Manage long-term inflammation for sustained relief

Provide quick, in-clinic treatment with minimal downtime

What To Expect From Treatment

Treatment is typically delivered as a short course of in-clinic
sessions spaced over several weeks. During your consultation,
your clinician will assess your symptoms and create a personalised treatment plan based on your specific needs.

Most patients notice gradual improvement as the glands begin
to function more effectively and inflammation is reduced
over time.

Is this treatment right for you?

IPL and LLLT are commonly recommended for
patients experiencing:

✔ Ongoing dry eye symptoms

✔ Watery, gritty or irritated eyes

✔ Eye discomfort after screen use

✔ Contact lens discomfort

✔ Symptoms that keep returning

✔ Dry eye that does not improve with drops alone

A consultation is the best way to determine whether this
treatment approach is suitable for your eyes.

Regain your quality of life by treating the root cause of
your dry eye.
